Compound 747

Beginning with the desire to learn how to make bags for our bicycle frames, my friend Eli Mickey and I catapulted ourselves into a much larger endeavor once our friends saw our new gear and wanted some of their own. ‘Compound 747’ was born shortly thereafter, in the spring of 2024, once we decided we couldn’t keep making 12-hour bags for free.

The pet-business quickly became a robust outlet for our design pursuits, opening a deep study of performance textiles, hardware, and fabrication techniques to meet the demands of rugged use in soft goods. Accompanying this deep dive was the emergence of a market within or own community and beyond, which has encouraged intentionality in branding and marketing and reframed how I view the designer-client relationship.

Compound 747’s flagship product is bespoke, made-to-order bicycle frame bags for commuting and adventuring. The custom model has propelled us into the role of design consultants, guiding our clients to an individualized final product intended for intimacy and longevity.
