Line Drawing Seat

Inspired by the plant drawings of Ellsworth Kelly, this project captures the contours of the artist’s delicate yet masterful line and extrudes them into a three dimensional soft seat meant for lounging.

Initially hand-sketched, the frame’s profile was then transferred from Adobe Illustrator and into AutoCAD for final processing to be cut with a CNC router. Besides the insulation foam, the interior structure is made of recycled foam and wood, and covered with a woven upholstery fabric that employs piping, button tufting, and compound curve pattern making.
